Files Action

A Files action is a product action that is automatically included with a new component when it is added to your project. Clicking the Files action displays a list of all of the files associated with it in the Files window. Files, symbolic links, and dynamic links (folders) can be added, edited, and deleted in the Installation Design and/or Files views.

Criteria for Adding Files and Dynamic Links to a Files Action

You can add files, symbolic links, and/or dynamic links to the same Files action only if they satisfy both of the following criteria. This is because these properties are set either in the component with which the Files action is associated or the Files action itself:

All of the files have the same installation location on the target machine. This is set in either the parent component or the Files action itself. For those files/folders for which this criteria is different, you would need to add a new Files action.
All of the files will be installed with the same condition(s), locale(s), and/or platform. These are set in the parent component. For those files/folders for which any of this criteria is different, you would need to add a new component in the Installation Design view, which will include a new Files action.
